Classic Art Nouveau tiles with semi-transparent glaze that gives the tile its unique color depth and fine craquelure - hairline cracks in the glaze - that act as a special design element. Crackled tiles were common and popular around the year 1900 throughout Europe. Note that this type of crackled tile should be impregnated both before and after grouting to prevent grout and dirt from entering the crackling.
