Lamps of the 1920s
In the 1920s, electric lighting became a standard feature in more and more Swedish homes. By 1922, 80% of Stockholm’s residents had electric lighting, and the number of light sources in homes increased. Table lamps and floor lamps took on a prominent role in interior design, and our Gullberg floor lamp is a period-typical example.
When it comes to finishes, nickel-plated brass became particularly popular in the 1920s, especially in neoclassical interiors. The bright brass was considered too ostentatious by modernists in the 1930s, but untreated brass – known as yellow metal – has historically remained the most common choice.
