Classic Art Nouveau tile with a semi-transparent glaze that gives the tile its unique color depth and fine craquelure - hairline cracks in the glaze - which serve as a special design element. Crackled tiles were common and popular around 1900 throughout Europe. Note that this type of crackled tile should be sealed both before and after grouting to prevent grout and dirt from entering the cracks.
